WELCOME TO PORT OF LONGYEARBYEN - The heart of the high arctic

The Port of Longyearbyen is the logistic point for cargo to the different settlements on Spitsbergen and the cruise industry. The port is located close to the city centre and Longyearbyen airport with regular flights to Tromsø and Oslo.

Longyearbyen is the starting point for a number of various boating excursions. Day trips in the local fjords or longer journeys along the West coast of Spitsbergen and around the Svalbard archipelago.

Every week during the ice free season, freighters are arriving Longyearbyen from Bodø and Tromsø, which together with air freight ensure predictable supplies.

There are three quays located within the port.

  • Kullkaia (Coal quay) is located at Hotelneset and dedicated shipping of coal. It also functions as a lay quay for medium and small non ISPS ships.
  • Gamlekaia (Old quay) is a wooden pillar quay operating general cargo, coasting vessels and bunker supplies for small and medium sized ships.
  • Bykaia is the public quay in Longyearbyen handeling general cargo and cruise traffic.

At Bykaia we also accommodate the requirements for visiting sailing boats with a floating pier and access to electricity, water, fuel, shower and laundry.
